The Boyce Insider - August 2024

A message from our Managing Director

Carmen Caldwell

With the ever-evolving world of technology, it can become all too easy to not leave the home office (especially with the recent cold weather!) but to Boyce our focus is building stronger relationships with our team, our clients, and our regional communities. Everyone at Boyce, travels regularly to visit clients, attend local industry and community events, and visit our offices. These face-to-face visits reinforce the care that we have for our clients and the care we have for our growing team. There are some great photos of the Boyce team out and about further down in this edition.

Earlier this month, the Boyce team participated in City2Surf raising $30,265 for Active Farmers, this year’s charity partner at Boyce. We were greeted to a beautiful day for our team of 28 who participated in the race.  We are very proud this year to have been in the top 10 fundraising teams.

Active Farmers was one of the top 30 charities supported. Boyce has participated in the City2Surf over the last 16 years raising almost $400,000. Thank you to many of you who contributed so generously. Active Farmers is an organisation committed to enhancing the physical and mental well-being of rural communities in Australia. Our partnership reflects our belief that a healthy community is a productive community, directly correlating well-being with financial stability and long-term sustainability.

At the beginning of August, some of our team attended the 2024 Australian Cotton Conference at the sunny Gold Coast. It was great to catch up with so many of our clients and learn about the upcoming challenges and opportunities facing the Australian cotton industry. At this conference we released the 2024 Boyce Cotton Comparative Interim Report. You will find the link to the report below to help our cotton growers plan for 2025. At Boyce, we believe in meaningful information, simply stated, and that is why Boyce has produced the annual Australian Cotton Comparative Analysis (ACCA) since the mid-1980s. This study is widely regarded by the industry as the benchmark for the economics of irrigated cotton growing in Australia.

This report is based on the preliminary results for a sample of participants. Whilst we recognise that the numbers in the final report will vary from this interim report, we felt that it was important to publish these figures before planting of the 2025 crop commences. This will enable growers to perform an initial comparison of their 2024 results against the average and to assist with their 2025 budgets.

You will find the report here:

Ready, Set, Active Farmers

At Boyce, we proudly support Active Farmers, an organisation committed to enhancing the physical and mental well-being of rural communities in Australia. Our partnership reflects our belief that a healthy community is a productive community, directly correlating well-being with financial stability and long-term sustainability.

Rural communities face unique challenges, such as isolation and limited access to healthcare. Active Farmers addresses these by providing accessible fitness programs and mental health support, fostering resilience and productivity. By promoting physical fitness and mental well-being, they help individuals manage stress and improve overall health, essential for effective farm management.

For the past 16 years, Boyce has participated in the iconic City2surf Sydney fun run to raise almost 400k for various charities that are close to our hearts and our regions. This year, Active Farmers was the beneficiary of our 2024 City2Surf fundraising efforts. We raised $30,265 to support Active Farmers build a sense of community and connection and help combat rural isolation.

July ended with the ASX200 surging to new record highs, although the first days of August were marked by an unsettling retreat for global stock markets broadly.

The Australian equity market had an exceptionally strong month rising 4.2%. All sectors with the exception of Utilities, Energy and Materials finished the month higher. Australian equity performance outshone global counterparts. The S&P 500 Index (USD) rose 1.2%, the FTSE Eurotop 100 Index (EUR) rose 0.5% and the CSI 300 Index (CNY) rose 0.6%. The Japanese and Hong Kong markets were some of the few to finish the month lower with returns of -1.2% and -1.0%
