The annual City2Surf challenge is taking place on Sunday 14 August and local professional services firm, Boyce Chartered Accountants, is fielding a team to raise funds for a very worthy cause.
This year our team has elected to support "Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust‟ – a charity that is dedicated to raising awareness of melanoma.
Trust Director and Wagga Wagga surgeon Dr Richard Harrison said 'the trust actively supports medical research and endeavours to provide better access to specialised care for the communities of the Riverina'.
"We are so pleased to have Boyce Chartered Accountants supporting this fantastic charity", said Dr Harrison.
Since 2008, Boyce has raised over $140,000 for charities through participation in the City2Surf. This year we are ready and rearing to go and calling for your support once again.
Amie was only 20 years old when she was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. In August 2007 she discovered a lump in her groin and went through numerous operations but it had spread too quickly. She battled long and hard for just over three years, trying every available treatment. On 9 November 2009, just one day after her 23rd birthday, Amie lost her battle with cancer.
A director of Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust Kate Garrett said “the Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust was created in Amie's honour to educate and support families with regards to melanoma prevention and education”.
“Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust relies entirely on donations and bequests so it‟s fantastic that a local firm is getting behind our charity to make a real difference to the Riverina community” said Mrs Garrett.
