Small business grant

Small business grant

16 December 2015

Employers who increase their staff numbers in New South Wales may now be eligible for the Small Business Grant from the New South Wales Office of State Revenue (OSR).

The Small Business Grant is designed to encourage the nearly 650,000 small businesses in New South Wales that do not pay payroll tax to hire new employees and expand their business.

To be eligible for the grant the employer must:

  • Have an active ABN and not be registered for Payroll Tax;
  • Employ someone in a new job after 1 July 2015 and maintain that position (and overall staff numbers) for at least 12 months;
  • Register the new position within 60 days after the employment commences; and
  • Ensure that the services of the employee are performed wholly, or mainly, in New South Wales.

The grant is a one off payment per new position and is paid when a claim is made on the 12 month anniversary of when the position was created. For full-time employees the grant amount is $2,000. In the case of part time or casual employees, the grant amount will be pro-rated based on full time equivalent (FTE) hours of employment.

For further information on the grant, visit the OSR website HERE. Alternatively speak with your local Boyce accountant.
