ATO moves toward paperless BAS lodgements

In response to the general move towards electronic media, the Australian Tax Office (ATO) will progressively implement changes to communication methods as it transitions to electronic correspondence.

The ATO has begun the process to cease issuing paper business activity statements (BAS). If your business receives a paper BAS from the ATO and you lodge manually using this form, nothing will change for you at this time. However, the ATO has advised they will stop issuing paper forms once an electronic lodgement has occurred and in the future will stop issuing paper forms altogether.

Changes to the Seniors Health Card Eligibility

One of the few superannuation announcements in the May Federal budget was a change to the eligibility conditions for the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC).

The Seniors Health Card provides two main benefits which are highly valued by holders:

  • Concession prices for medicines listed on the Pharmaceuticals Benefit Scheme; and
  • Bulk billing by doctors (who are incentivised by the Government to bulk bill CSHC holders).

Boyce, in conjunction with the Cotton Research & Development Corporation, have released interim results for the 2014 Australian Cotton Comparative Analysis.

The interim results reveal an operating profit of $584 per hectare, down $195 from the 2013 results.
