Boyce Movemeber fund raising wraps up

Boyce Movemeber fund raising wraps up

7 December 2010

A number of the Boyce team (of the male variety) raised more than $1,600 for men’s health during Movember, as well as sporting some rather impressive moustaches by month end.

Each year Movember is responsible for the emergence of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Australia and around the world, with the sole aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Men sporting Movember moustaches, known as Mo Bros, became walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raised awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, the Boyce Mo Bros raised funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo growing efforts. The rules were simple - start the month of Movember clean shaven, before growing a Mo.

There was a large Mo Bros contingent from the Boyce Moree office including Charles Sullivan, Grant Goldsworthy, Tristan Lindner and Directors Phil Alchin and David Newnham (pictured above). The Moree Mo Bros were joined by Ben Calder from Dubbo and Sam Bacigalupo and Paul Sheen from Boyce Cooma.

As part of their fund-raising efforts the Mo Bros from Boyce Moree hosted a Movember BBQ on Friday 26 Movember where they were joined by clients, bankers and other business people. The event was lots of fun and the Moree Mo Bros managed to raise more than $700 on the day.

Money raised in Australia is shared equally between programs targeting prostate cancer and male depression. Funds are committed to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation. Together, the three channels work to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world class programs in the fields of research, education, support, and awareness.

Boyce is proud of the involvement of our team members in such a worthwhile fund-raising event. We apologise though to our clients for having to put up with some rather scruffy looking facial hair on the participating team members during the past month!
