Do you use fuel in your business? If so, you should know that there have been changes to the fuel tax credit rates. Fuel tax credit rates have increased for eligible fuel acquired from 2 February 2015, due to a rise in the consumer price index (CPI).

What this means for your business is that when calculating your fuel tax credit, you need to use the fuel tax credit rate that applied when you acquired the fuel.

Land tax is a tax levied on the owners of land in New South Wales as at midnight on the 31 December of each year. Land tax applies to land regardless of whether income is earned from the land.

If you own any property in NSW that is not your principal place of residence as at midnight 31 December 2014, including a holiday house or unit, you may be liable to pay land tax.

Superannuation rates and thresholds for 2015/16

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has announced key superannuation rates and thresholds to apply in respect of the 2015/16 financial year.

Concessional contributions caps

  • The concessional contributions cap for 2015/16 has remained the same as the 2014/15 year at $30,000.
  • The special concessional contributions cap for older people remains at $35,000, but will apply to anyone aged 49 or older on 1 July 2015.
