Boyce Raises Record Amount for Burns Survivors

Boyce Raises Record Amount for Burns Survivors

26 August 2013

It was a case of ‘country spirit’ triumphing in more ways than one when the Boyce team turned out for this year’s annual City2Surf race.

We managed to not only field a team of more than 80 runners but also, thanks to your generous support, snared a top 5 finish in the list of ‘top team fundraisers’, raising a staggering $33,500 for the Burns Support Foundation.

“Not a bad effort for a team from the bush”, declared managing director, Bernard Kennedy.

“The generosity of country people is well known but I think the support and enthusiasm we received this year even surprised us.”

Boyce has competed in the City2Surf for the past seven years and each year has come up with novel fundraising ideas.

NSW Payroll Tax Reforms

NSW Payroll Tax Reforms

26 August 2013

The NSW 2013-14 Budget handed down in mid-June by the O’Farrell government included a welcome announcement for business owners in relation to payroll tax reforms.

Effective 1 July 2013 the payroll tax threshold for business increased from $689,000 to $750,000. The government believes this one-off threshold increase will benefit as many as 1,300 business owners who will no longer be liable to pay payroll tax.

Businesses may also benefit from the government’s announcement in relation to the Jobs Action Plan.

This program, designed to give businesses an incentive to employ new workers, has been extended until June 2015 with an increased payroll tax rebate of $5,000 for new jobs created since 1 July 2013.

SMSF Insurance Changes

SMSF Insurance Changes

26 August 2013

Self-insurance in general and some specific types of external insurance, such as trauma insurance, are to be outlawed in SMSFs and most other super funds.

Over the last 12 to 18 months, the Government has made a few changes in regards to insurance in superannuation funds. Until recently, the two main changes were:

  • a reduction in the amount of tax deductions super funds could claim for some disability insurance premiums; and
  • a requirement that trustees of SMSFs consider whether insurance cover should be taken out for members of the SMSF.

Disability insurance provides cover to an individual in the event that they are permanently disabled to the extent that they are unable to work.

Vale David Gamson | Former Chairman

Vale David Gamson | Former Chairman

26 August 2013

The directors and Boyce team were saddened to receive the news that David Gamson, a former chairman of the firm, passed away on 13 August 2013 following a long period of ill-health.

Gammo (as we at Boyce knew him) succeeded Jack Morrow as the firm’s second independent chairman in July 1994, a position he held until 2000.

As a retired audit partner with Price Waterhouse, Gammo quickly put his distinctive stamp on the chairman role and it soon became clear to the directors how fortunate the firm was to have someone of his calibre on board.
