Save time in your business by using AUSkeys to report information

16 January 2015

It's one of the things no one tells you when you're running a small business - the amount of time you spend on paperwork. Amongst those obligations is the need to regularly submit information to the government.

The government's answer to this is Standard Business Reporting (SBR) - a series of specifications that software developers can integrate into accounting and other business software. Rather than spending time filling out paper forms and re-entering data into different systems, portals or government agencies you enter data once into your systems and it's automatically sent in the correct format.

An important part of the SBR is the use of AUSkeys - a secure login that identifies you when using participating government online services on behalf of a business.

AUSkeys allow you to access and send business information to participating government agencies online. It simplifies the way you can interact with government agencies from changing your Australian business number (ABN) details to lodging your business activity statement (BAS).

AUSkeys are quick, easy and free to obtain and make future proof of identification processes very easy.  The first step in obtaining your AUSkey is to find out if you are eligible, which you can do here.

There are two types of AUSkeys available – an administrator or standard AUSkey. Administrator AUSkeys have greater access power than standard AUSkeys and one administrator AUSkey must be issued before a standard AUSkey can be issued. You can find out more about these at what type of AUSkey is right for you.

For further details please refer to the ABR website at www.abr.gov.au/AUSkey/ or contact your local Boyce Accountant.
